Karawang – The Karawang International Industrial City (KIIC) is facing the threat of severe traffic congestion. A peaceful protest held by three mass organizations—XTC Indonesia, GSI (Gerakan Siliwangi Indonesia), and LMP (Laskar Merah Putih)—in front of PT TJ Forge Indonesia on Monday (1/12/2025) has started to significantly disrupt traffic flow inside the industrial area.
The three organizations are firmly demanding that PT TJ Forge Indonesia act transparently and fairly regarding the alleged termination of cooperation with one of its partner companies for unclear reasons. This issue is heightening tensions within the industrial complex, especially since KIIC is one of the most vital manufacturing zones in Karawang and a key logistics corridor for many multinational companies.
Traffic Starts to Jam, and Could Worsen if More Protesters Arrive
Observations at the scene show that even today’s demonstration alone has already caused slowdowns on several main roads within KIIC. Production vehicles, logistics trucks, and employee cars formed long lines as parts of the roads narrowed due to crowds gathering at the protest site.
“If the protest stays this size and it’s already this jammed, imagine what happens if more people join. The area could be completely gridlocked,” said Deni, an employee who had just finished his shift at one of the factories in KIIC.
Deni expressed concern that the situation could continue and directly affect workers. Smooth access in and out of the KIIC zone is essential for daily industrial operations, and any disruption can trigger a chain reaction affecting factory productivity.
Workers’ Concern: ‘Work Is Already Exhausting, Don’t Add More Traffic to It’
As a worker, Deni hopes the issue can be resolved quickly and wisely by all parties.
“I just hope everyone can reach a good decision. Working in a factory is already tiring, especially if we have to deal with extra traffic in the morning or on the way home,” he said.
Similar concerns are being voiced by many employees who rely on KIIC’s traffic routes every day. If the situation continues, it could disrupt not only factory operations but also the social and economic conditions around the industrial area.
Mass Organizations Vow Not to Back Down
Based on information from the field, the three organizations have made it clear that they will continue their actions until PT TJ Forge Indonesia provides transparent and definitive answers regarding the disputed termination of cooperation with its partner company. This stance raises the possibility of larger follow-up protests.
This is what fuels growing concern: any increase in the number of protesters will directly worsen the traffic situation, as KIIC’s road network was not designed to accommodate large crowds for long periods.
